Blue Andalusian thread!

Hi, I ordered Blue Andalusian hens (although I think one is turning out to be a roo) and some of them look black. Is this a normal thing when ordering Blue's from a hatchery? If so, do I still refer to them as Blue Andalusian's or Black?

Thanks, Donna

The breed is Blue Andalusian. The accepted standards for color are the blue (slate grey), the black and the splash (white with mottled grey).

I have 6 Blue Andalusians. There are black (2 hens and one hen that decided to become a rooster), two blue and one splash. They lay white eggs.

My rooster (I did not want a rooster in my flock) is the most beautiful bird I have seen. He is tall, slim, very large comb and wattles, white ear lobes and tail feathers that reach for the sky. And he can crow like no bodies business.

Does anyone need another roo in WA state?

I finaly managed to get a decent picture of my Blue Andalusian rooster (black coloration). His name is Little Dude, full name Little Dude la Roo - The Hen That Decided To Be A Rooster.

He is good at watching over his flock of 23 hens, has a small harem of favorites (six hens) that he will call over when he finds a nice bug to share and in general is not a bad rooster. You can see the hint of green in his tail feathers. That same green is throughout his entire body.
