Blue Andalusian thread!

Wow, those are some beautiful birds.

I was thinking of Mendelian genetics - to produce 100% Blue phenotype Andalusian you would cross a Black with a White/Splash Adalusian correct? That would give you 1 black allele and 1 diluting allele in each chick produced if my understanding of the breed is correct.

That is Correct..

but Andalusian's have Columbian(Co) Pattern Gene(Pg) and Melanotic(Ml) that's why they are laced, some of these genes are missing in the american lines and therefore they don't look as sharp

yes that is correct

Black x Splash = 100 % Blue
Black x Black = 100 % Black
Black x Blue = 50% Black and 50% Blue
Blue x Blue = 25% Black, 50% Blue and 25% Splash
Blue x Splash = 50% blue and 50% Splash
Splash x Splash = 100% Splash

that is interesting to know, I have not come across that information in what we have read so far,

here is a picture of 1 of the hens that my DD is working with:

is there any way to increase the sharpness of the lacing working with what is available here in the U.S.?

Hi that hen looks realy nice, .

thanks, she is the original one that my DD started with(only one to survive from the 6 chicks she purchased through a local breeder) the other hens and roosters(hatched from purchased eggs through a different breeder) don't show any lacing close to this one. We are hoping to improve on this with our up coming hatches.

Not without going outside the breed. and if you chose to do so, it could take some time to regain type. but its doable

thank you for the information, I will bookmark and read the link you provided
