Blue/Brown Eggs, Easter/Christmas Eggs - Getting my craft on!!

I use kabob sticks-but I only have one small hole in my eggs, and they are kind of perched precariously on the stick. It's a nervous time for me when I'm spraying them.

When I mount my eggs on the kabob sticks I use a pinch of that removable wall putty (Scotch makes it) to hold them on. I usually have a smaller hole on the small end of the egg, so the egg won't fall all the way down the stick, but if it does, I'll put a bit of putty on the bottom of the egg to keep it from sliding.

Genius!! Never would have though of that!

I love them all! What kind of paint did you use to spray the background? What do you use to finish/set the paint on the egg? Maybe I should do some One-Stroke painting on mine?

if you're asking about mine.. for this batch I used regular spray paint from walmart (the cheap stuff).. I have also airbrushed the eggs before (not this batch.. but others I have done) with the same results.. in the past I have also used rustoleum and several other brands.. just depends on your budget and which colors you want to work with sinc enot all colors are available in every brand.
Just a note about spray paints... whichever brand you choose make sure you use the same brand for all the paints .. especially if you plan to blend colors like I did.. using different brands can cause the paint to crinkle and bubble.. and if you don't know how to work with that it can lead to paint that won't cure or that will fall off. But having said that the "weathered" effect is cool if you can work with it.. lol

for the top coat I used "triple thick" . I have also used a spray varnish before as well as mod podge.. so pretty much any clear coat can be used.. i just wanted a nice shiny surface for these.. and like before if you are using a spray varnish make sure it's compatible with your other paints or you will have problems.

hope this helps!

So last year I found this thread AFTER my girls had stopped laying for the winter (I've only got 4 chickens), I'm starting my Christmas gifts now as they are back to an average of 3 eggs per day...need to remember not to crack those eggs open when I use them!!!

I bought some of the decals for soap box derby cars and put one on an egg. It cracked a bit. Its pretty brittle stuff. I prefer to use temporary tattos. WAY cheaper and for the most part a better result.

Did anyone try the water type decals? They call them transfers. That is what I used a long time ago.

Breshcandra, your eggs look really nice! Has your church held the auction?

I donated some of mine for a Mission Mart at our church and I priced them @ $5.00 each and $24.00 for a set of 4-(they were more detailed). I really think the price should have been more-but I wanted to be sure they would sell.
