Blue/Brown Eggs, Easter/Christmas Eggs - Getting my craft on!!

I'm going to revive this very old thread -

I have several of my Miss Prissy inspired decorated eggs and wanted to put them in a "nest" display holder. Everyone knows how the economy is still leaving most of us very short on money so i knew I wouldn't be able to buy anything. Then this week as I was picking up all the willow branches out of my yard so that I can mow the grass that's over a foot tall... it hit me! I have all the supplies right here to make one myself! I was soo happy with the results I just had to share:

And here are a bunch of eggs waiting for their final embellishments:

Time to get going for the next gift season!

I have a contribution too I've been working on... I grew a BUNCH of "Nest Egg" Gourds. Once dried they can be painted as with any egg, except they won't break like eggs, you can use traditional tools to drill the holes and they can be tinted or painted any color!!!!
check these out: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cookwood/3087230293/in/set-72157608246453597/ ... they are made by a fellow computer geek gone part time farmer like myself... here's her blog: http://www.pigsgourdsandwikis.com/ it looks like a combination of contrasting colors using a sponge technique and then varnished or seriously lacquered. AMAZING work!

I also picked up a Martha Stewart Technique for making our own tissue paper shapes to mod podge on instead of rub-ons or stickers!
Just use a paper puncher in shapes to cut several pieces of tissue paper sandwiched between construction paper. The construction paper takes the brunt of the cut and leaves the tissue paper shapes in tact. Practice required.

I'm so excited.. I hope to sell them

to be decorated, as well as make a few of our own for this Christmas gifts!

very pretty!!! /'i made some for both daughter's classes and traded on here for some as well and personalized them with their names at Christmas.....they were a huge hit and I really enjoyed doing it other than the blowing ugghhhhh the blowing took me the longest!!!

Talented girls!!! Yes, Id love to know where you got those rub ons? And those painted eggs are just gorgeous...what with and how did you paint them?

I got the bird rub ons in the top photo from the local animal shelter 2nd hand store. I don't have the package label any more but I seem to recall the date on it as being from the 70's.

Most of the rub ons in the second photo are ones I created myself. The Celtic Dolphins are super popular. It is paper from a company called Papilio that you can use in your inkjet printer, then you put some of their rub on adhesive on the paper, and presto - your own designs, size and even color if you're that talented with photo shop. The paper was pretty pricy but I figured that I ended up paying about the same as getting the commercial ones, only now I have some unique designs. Next I'm going to use actual photos of my chickens and flowers for the designs instead of clip art.

Here's the web site for the company in case any of you are interested:

Oh and the rubbing part was SUPER easy, almost too easy - It just fell off the backing paper. No more breaking eggs because it was so darn hard to get the rub offs to rub off!

I agree on the gourds! Fantastic!

DawnSuitor - Are they called egg gourds? Did you have to special order the seeds or are they readily available? I'd love to grow a variety of the ones you have shown.
