Blue/Brown Eggs, Easter/Christmas Eggs - Getting my craft on!!

I spray finished eggs with clear varnish -- spray can from K-Mart -- about $1.50 -- this keeps the eggs from sticking when they are stored in cartons --
easy to do ---

I am in the 'will I ever finish???' stage now -- the process seems endless this year --

Mod-Podge first -- as many coats as I have the patience for -- after the designs are glued on (I use cut-outs from tissue paper, paper napkins, etc.) I stand at the sink and use my hands to coat all the eggs with the Mod-Podge -- let it dry and then coat again --- several times -- I've found that small wooden skewers (like long toothpicks) work for propping up the eggs to dry -- insert skewer into hole in the egg and put them standing up in a couple of jars to dry --

I've done them with just the varnish before and they don't have the 'depth' of design that several coats of Mod-Podge gives, but are still okay -- and lots quicker --

after they are dry, I glue on a feather or two and spray the 'finished products' --

takes several days --

good luck and please share pictures!

oh yes, and I have not been able to ever find the bead-things that work for me as 'toppers' so I use a very narrow ribbon loop to glue in the hole, cover that with a tiny bow of the ribbon --

it's taking a long time this year --

on Wed. (if the weather co-operates) I will be doing my favorite way of decorating eggs ---

dipping them into a bucket of water with enamel paints swirled on the top -- makes a free-form design and the eggs look as if they are sort of tie-dyed --
hard to find the little Testors enamel model paints now, tho --- egg needs a hole in each end -- run a wire thru egg, dip quickly in-and-out of the water/paints and hang to dry --
I use the large plastic buckets and do this in front of the barn because its a messy process -- :)

if I could figure out how to post pictures, I would -- I have tried and tried to be able to do pictures but no luck as I use the 'Kodak Easy-Share' program and am not technically proficient -- :-(

I've never done that on eggs, but I have on a lot of other things, it is an awesome effect, even did it on a couple of lamp shades for my gma. You can use any oil based paint, I have used the oil based spray paint often, it is inexpensive and easy to get.

I made more eggs, I can't STOP!!!!

I am using the plain old original mod podge and mine don't feel sticky to me. I normally put the bead caps on after I have mod podged them and let them dry. They don't seem sticky then.

any one else notice stickiness?

I have noticed my eggs sticking together after they have been modge podged over a year ago. I would rather use something else but not having any luck finding anything better.

Seems the more questions I get answered the more I have, lol.... umm, how long do you wait between coats of mod podge? Just till they feel dry, or like overnight? You guys have all been great though, in answering my questions...hopefully when Im done, ill have something I wont be embarrassed to post photos of!
