Blue cochin. Roo or hen?

He/she is 5-6 months old. I was positive that it was a roo.... No crowing or anything yet and none of my flock has laid eggs yet. But they're all getting red combs, so it won't be long! Is there a possibility that this is actually a hen?

By that age... most boys will actively be chasing and trying to mate females.

I can't make out the saddle feathers in those pics, but they don't lie on most breeds (except Seabrights) by your stated age...

ETA: hackle feathers do look male as far as I can tell.

Yeah, this one has been tricky for me! I started out with 8 roosters in this batch and every single one except for this 1 has been crowing and doing boy stuff.

He is just maturing slower than the others. It is crazy to see how different the speed of development can be!

I do agree with you though... there are definite pointy saddle feathers coming in.

Blue birds are so pretty and add it to Cochin shape. :love
