Blue Copper and Splash Copper Marans Discussion

Hi Vicki, I have been bother by not being able to post on BC for quite a while. I finally switched over to Google Chrome and it seem everything is working. We only have a few Marans hatched as of present . We only plan on about 50. We are working on the White Wyandotte Large and Bantam. We have some nice Bantam rocks growing off. Don

nice! I have 13 chicks total so far this year. I started a new job last fall and has limited my time, but hope to do some hatching later this year as well. Probably not anywhere near the scale of the last few years. I have thinned out my stock again, so just have the B/B/S/ Coppers and B/B/S Birchen Marans, Light, Coronation and Platinum Sussex, and B/B/S Wyandotte Bantams and Columbian Wyandotte Bantams.

I have a quad of White wyandottes. I got some eggs off ebay for a friend and she only wanted pullets and I could not tell the pullets when time came to pick up her birds LOL.. Ended up with a pair and I have 2 more pullets with him now. Maybe by Christmas LOL (they are about 8-9 months old) the other 2 pullets will start laying. They are BIG birds, bigger than my BLRW and SLW, and the only complaint I have is the roos comb.

Glad you guys are back.

AHHH! So kinda like a horse saddle on its back with the feathers kind like saddle stirrups?? I feel dumb now lol... Thank you so much for the help... hopefully one day I'll be as knowledgable as y'all are :)

These are some of the Marans I have to start my line with... Would really love some input on pullet or cockerel, breed standard and so on.
Hard to tell with just side photos...best for evaluation are side, front, back and top. I see what look like a lot of pinched tails from these side photos, which indicate narrow hindquarters and production problems if it is so.

Ok... It's hard getting good pics because they're very skiddish right now. I just got them from a breeder about a week or so ago so that may be because they're adjusting??? Is there anyway to make them less skiddish? I go out in the pen everyday and try to feed them treats from my hand but they're like "Oh NO the giants back!!!! Run!!!"

Quote: With the Marans Back we want a Back that is wide from front to the base of the tail. Best way to correct the pinched tail is use a Male with a big Bushy tail as this will open up the tail on the young.

When we have Marans with squirrel tail we should look at the length of the Back, short back usually means squirrel tail. DON

If I want to produce some blue marans without using a splash, what would give me the best blue? A really black male/female with a blue male/female?
My first Question would be where would you get a pure Black Marans ? All the Black female you see are overmelanized Black Copper. Don
