Blue Copper and Splash Copper Marans Discussion

Hi all! I'm looking for big gorgeous dark hatching eggs BBS Copper Marans around WA area. I found some last year at an auction but lost everyone to predators. Anyone up my way?? I know i can ship some up, I was just wondering if there were any breeders in the area.

Well slick, based on leg color I think it is a blue with leakage, a splash would either have white or a very definite blue color on the legs, not slate

Okay, I've never heard of blue leakage on a blue. Anyway to explain that to me?

Its not a huge deal, I just prefer birds that don't have it. As far as explaining the specific reasoning for the leakage, you'd have to ask someone like Don, or someone that knows the techincal parts of genetics better than I. I just know how to breed birds well, not the specifics of coding. It all depends on what she is planning on doing with them. If they are just backyard birds, no worries, if they are breeding to the SOP, then its a different deal

Thanks for the info! Since she knows that I'm only breeding for dark egg color and not SOP I'm sure this pullet is a backyard breeder type. If Don (or anyone) happens by that can explain I'd appreciate knowing. I kinda like the colors myself.

Ok, here is Blaze. Critique away, and thank you again for letting me barge in here.

First, let me thank you for posting the photos, since I replied to what might help others give you the critique you asked for. Hoping a more educated member will give their opionion here soon.
Secondly, please realize many of us have birds that have faults, good birds are very hard to come by and also difficult to produce, the breed offers many challenges.
I can only say that if the tail carriage in the photo is his norm, his tail is very high, upright, although it seems to have some open-ness to it which is a good thing.
Again, I hope someone else offers some critique, especially on his color, his neck color seems very coppery for a blue, but, I don't see much color in his saddle area.
Hopefully others will comment on overall conformation, leg color, and such.
