I have a pullet that was supposedly a blue copper maran when I got her from the local feed store. At 14 weeks, she hasn’t started exhibiting any copper in her hackles and her comb is coming in gray, so I’m wondering what breed or mix she could be. A friend’s copper maran that she got at the same time is showing copper and a red comb. Mine has the look and lacing of a blue Sumatra but with the feathered feet of the blue copper maran. She’s a very pretty girl, but I’m curious as to where she fits on the breed scale. (And, of course, what color egg to expect.) When she’s not in direct sunlight, the head/hackles are a darker blue/black.

I don't' think that it's uncommon to have blue copper marans hens without any copper, but I don't know about the comb.

I have 2 Blue Cuckoo Marans with no Barring. They are solid blue with no other colors. They both have feathered feet. One has cuckoo feathers only on the legs.

I posted my Blue Star in error above. In these photos they are 8 weeks old. In the first photos they are 10 weeks. I think it's safe to say they are pullets because there are no red combs or wattles. Actually one has a very dark blue comb.

Oh thanks. I have been corrected by others who said can't be fibro or melanistic because the skin is not black.
Well maybe just say the bird has dark facial skin or a dark comb and wattles. I know you didn't mean any harm. I just think terms like that should stay in the past.
