<<Blue Copper Marans>> who won the ones on ovabid?

I thought I might give them a try. I am on Bev Davis's list, but will probably not be to the top for two years. We'll see.

Thanks for the warnings...I don't have any Marans and don't know that much about them...I just knew people have been wanting them.
Good to know you guys are looking out for us newbies!

I am not sure anymore. From what I was told, this is from the old original American Marans Club that is no longer in existance. Supposedly, it went more by the Fench standards. That new chart that looks so fancy has lighter egg colors from what I am told, and from what I see on the website, it does look a lot lighter. I got mine from a gal in WI that just happened to have an extra. I got her last one. I am a lot of help, aren't I?

Edited to add...The chart I have was printed by a printing press somewhere. It is laminated, and if you flip it over, it has toe punching guidelines on the back for keeping track of different groups of birds.

JE - Bev's are worth the wait. It is really hard to improve egg color once it is lost. She's so mindful of quality and I just talked to her a few days ago. She is working on improving the Blue Copper egg color right now. You won't be disappointed.

I know a lot of people want these darn colored eggs, but you shouldn't have to pay rediculous prices for hatching eggs. There are so many things that can happen with shipped eggs, and so many people are getting disappointed by their poor hatches and poor egg colors. I believe you should look to the best breeders, i.e. Presley, Davis, Jeane, etc. and see what their eggs are selling for. These are the industry leaders. You should never pay more from anyone else unless they can PROVE they have something superior to the leaders. JMHO.

Please do your research before you pay a ridiculous price for these pretty eggs or birds.
There are noted breeders and there are lists of people waiting for their birds and eggs for a reason. If you go for the quick fix, and pay a ton, you're gonna be sorry in the long run. Go ahead and do it, if you must have instant gratification, but you wont be doing yourself, the breed, or those who truly care about promoting the breed any favors. Alot of people are learning the hard way.

Bev charges $60 per dozen. This is definatley the most I would ever pay and those eggs better be exceptional.

Tina, what shade would you say yours are-- 5s? They're gorgeous even at that level (it seemed to me like they were darker than that, but I'm not at home to check my bator--which is a shame since they're supposed to hatch today.) I just about die when I see half a dozen marans eggs going for $50. It's unreal.

I just bid forty, I have fity sitting in paypal right now, and I am bored. i hurt my back at work and am light duty and have room, and don't care. That money has been sitting in Paypal waiting to be spent on eggs some day. Today is the day... fifty bucks won't break me or make me. Chickens are my hobby and not my business. They don't have to break even or lay a ton of eggs for me to be happy taking care of them. Besides, I am a bit of a gambler when it comes to chickens. I have a few ready outlets for my "failures" other than the stew pot anyhow. To me it is not life and death if they lay as dark as she says or not. Now if she sends me a bunch of RIR looking eggs, I will request a refund.
