Blue eggs

I think most (many?) of us have the common hatchery Easter Eggers and get pale eggs.

I agree that one would look for real Ameraucanas from a real breeder. And from one that breeds for egg color not just body type.

I have never bought from them nor do I know anything really about them but Chicken Scratch Poultry claims to have nice vivid blue egg color on their Ameraucanas.

Now, what I want to know is, is there any one getting truly speckled eggs?

I had thought that I was getting one now and then, but finally realized that I was mistaken.

Anybody?

I have gotten several blue speckled eggs from my Isbars. Some days are better than others but mostly every egg is speckled. The speckles are a brownish color. I sold 11 dozen eggs yesterday and don’t have one to photograph today. They are med to large size and quite attractive. I can only hope that my customers realize that the specks are part of the color and not a dirty egg.

Don’t be too sure there!
I don’t know Isbars, but I will bet those “brown spots” will wash off!

I too thought they were “part of the color”, but found out differently!

A touch of Dove and a finger nail brush removes the speckles without altering the underlaying shell color. Such does take a bit of scrubbing though.

So, apparently they “are dirty” eggs!

The specks do not wash off. They are as much the color as the specks that are on my Maran eggs. So the darker brown Maran egg is speckled, it’s more calcium deposits rather than just pigment in the shell color. The other two are more shell color and do not wash off. The Isbar eggs are more green than blue but they are speckled.

Sorry, but those specks DO WASH OFF!

You just haven't managed to do so as yet!

Whether they are excess pigment, dried blood or whatever, mixed with the natural coating, I don't know. But they WILL wash of with enough elbow grease!
