What breed of chicken lays blue eggs? A friend of mine gave me a dozen eggs and there were two blue eggs in it. He said he hatched them from eggs that he bought at a store that sells organic food. Theresa
Please and thank you!

Ameraucanas and Araucanas do.

However the most common, popular source of blue eggs are "Easter Egger" chickens, commonly sold falsely as Ameraucanas but actually a generic "mutt" who lay blue or green eggs.

Illia, You breed Armeraucanas, correct? If I were to buy Ameraucanas from a hatchery, they would in reality be Easter Eggers, correct? Are EE good layers? thank you, Theresa

Yes and yes.

They are indeed good layers, but they do vary. I once had an EE who was a TERRIBLE layer. I'm talking 20 eggs a year. But, most out there are really dependable.

I have 3 EE's at 14 weeks, fingers crossed they are blue or green layers, maybe pink...doesn't guarantee the egg color...
