Hello, everyone! As a first time chicken owner, I have found your site to be a wealth of information. Thank you all for sharing your experience with us newbies.

My concern (which I have little luck finding information about) is that my two 6 week old Easter Eggers & three 7 week old Buff Orpington's have blue eyes. While two of the Buffs irises are becoming more golden, the others are not. They appear to be becoming more grey. I know eye color can vary with the EEs, but i’m unsure if this is normal. In my prior research, I have read about Marek’s Disease & am concerned for them, although they display no other symptoms & are happy/ healthy girls otherwise. I’m hoping someone has some information to share- i’m really crossing my fingers that this eye color change is normal in chicks.

Thank you for your responses ❤️

Hi @MgnRose :frow Welcome To BYC

If you wish to post some photos of your chicks and their eyes, we will be happy to take a look. (we LOVE photos of chickens here!)

Likely it's just normal color changing, but I can see where you would be concerned. There's so much information about chicken diseases it can be scary.

Thank you for your responses! I tend to be a bit of a helicopter mom to all of my furry & feathered children, so I was just wanting to make sure I wasn’t being paranoid. But also, if something is concerning, to address the situation if need be. You could not imagine all the google results that come up when you ask the internet about blue eyed chicks ;)

I will take pictures of the ladies as soon as I am done with the yard work :)

Look forward to the photos.

I can imagine what the results were when you started Googling!

So- I think I was being a little overzealous in my initial post. The ladies eyes have starting becoming more grey, phew. I think everyone is in the clear :celebrate
That's good!
I figured that it would just take a little time.

Some of my PBR's have green eyes and they eventually turn Bay colored, it's interesting to see.
