Blue jersey giant breeding.

I have some blacks and was wondering what you cross to get a blue.

Hi, the bird in question from the Golda Miller breeding was a sport- which means it is a genetic surprise of sorts. Though that bird was from white parentage, there was something being hidden by the white genetics. Dominant white can mask a number of other traits. If you breed a standard Black Jersey Giant to a standard White Jersey Giant, you will not get splash or blue. Your second statement is correct- black x splash = blue. If there is interest in obtaining Splash Jersey Giants rather than taking the genetic chance in hoping to find a White Giant masking something that will eventually yield blue or splash, I highly recommend going to the Jersey Giant Club site and finding a breeder. If you're really interested in breeding Giants, join the club! The publications are good and my limited experience has been that other club members are very helpful and excellent ambassadors of the breed.

Blue or Splash.

Black x Splash = 100% blue

Black x Blue = 50% blue 50% black

I read somthing about mating a Black Jersey to a White Jersy. What does that get you?

Black x White is what created blue long ago, making Jersey Giants one of the few to be originally blue (not introduced into the pool) however now, the blue color just simply works like any other BBS colored breeds.

I am not expert, but I asked this same question and was told:
black is black, it does not matter what mating it comes from.

Sorry, didn't fully understand the question earlier.

Yes, black is black, blue cannot "hide" however you can get a really dark blue.

There was a thread discussing this some pages back, but. . . . blacks from a blue x black breeding, same as blacks from a blue x blue breeding, are still plain 'ol black, nothing hidden. Same goes for traits like a smooth from a frizzled breeding, or a clean faced bird from a tufted breeding, etc.
