Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

It depends what you want them for. I bought my stock from Jerry Foley because I want to breed from them. I sell eggs and chicks to pay for their feed and to buy new birds.

For backyard pets and egg layers, hatchery stock is fine.
Hey hardinpoultry, did you ever see my PM about what color my chick may grow to be?

Foley.......WOW what beautiful birds!!!! He stated that he is not going to sell chicks this year---too much work....Only afew extras will be auctioned off. Anyone out there with his line or the same quality, selling chicks?

The hatchery stock blrw's are not all bad. They aren't bred for quality, but 2 years ago, when she was a pullet, the mother of my blrw's ( Kamaria ) got a 'Best In Show' for the bantams in my local fair. I was shocked! She really didn't look much like a blr, but the judge said that the blue color could come in many shades, and in Kamaria's case, it was so light, that you could only barely see it around her legs. The red was more orange. But she's way prettier than I'm making her sound... :p

Quote: typically hatchery stock don't really meet the breed standard very closely. usually the type is off, and the color may not be ideal. but the birds (wyandottes in this case) are close enough that they'd be recognizable as wyandottes, but would likely not go anywhere if you try to show them against birds bred by someone who is knowledgable and breeds toward the standard.
