Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

I just looked at my two 1 week old BLRW chicks. I am predicting 1 male and 1 female. The one I think is a male constantly stands "tall". He also has a much wider and bigger comb. The one I think is a female has a really tiny thin comb and is always standing at a slightly couched, forward leaning stance. Their wings are also growing in differently. On my last hatch (not all Wyandotte) I correctly predicted 6 of the 7 chicks by the end of the first week based on stance, feather length, combs and leg thickness.

thanks so much that is a ton of help. Ive noticed some of mine are standing taller and chest bumping, Ive had very tough girls do the same fighting for pecking order but the feather length is diffrent. I have also noticed some of the wings came in faster but i didnt know that was reliable for BLRW. Thanks so much for the info.

with my dorkings, i got used to how my silver greys grew out, so when i got my chicks from sandhill preservation center, i was totally disappointed because they didn't shape up quite the same way. but the end result was much the same. the silver greys grew long and low body then filled in evenly, the sandhill birds grew tall and lanky, then lengthened the body and filled in. (unlike the upright stance of a wyandotte, dorkings are more 'barge-like' as one person put it...)

my point here being that some lines may develop differently than others, some feathering out faster or slower, etc.

So, here is my little BLRW/ She is 10 days old. I am concerned about the size of her wings. Are they suppose to be this thin and small at 10 days? I don't remember the BLRW I hatched 2 months ago having such little wings. Other chicks I have hatched have much larger wings than this one. Is this a Wyandotte trait? Is this normal?

Your chick probably has the slow feathering gene.
