Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

please do not stop your conversation for me, but i just wanted to jump in the thread to share pic of my new chicks (still hatching)

I have 4 different breeds under my broody, but I think this 3 are BLRW.... what do you guys think???

It's my first hatch ever so i'm almost as exited as my hen

don't think the golden ones are blrw, but the one at the bottom of this pic is, IMO.

Quote: blue will never breed true when you breed blue to blue. you'll get 25% black, 50% blue and 25% splash. spash is the homozygous version of a blue. blues are always heterozygous, meaning they only carry 1 copy of the blue gene.

that's in any breed that has a blue version. and while blue is the recognized color for many breeds, they will never breed true.

the other breeds are
-sliver laced wyadotte
-lemon c orpingtons
-white silkie

(and 1 egg of the proud hen mother that would be a cross of withe leghorn(roo) and american game(hen), but im almost sure i saw that one egg still unhatched)
Ohhh, I want some SLW and Lemon orphingtons.....Jealous!

All chicks are adorable! I would guess one is a BLRW. The others might be a cross, they kind of look like one.
Quote: To understand you first have to understand the genetics of the color blue. Not only in Wyndottes, but every breed works identical.

I set 31 and 30 are out..the last is pipped but it was piped when I went to bed.

Happy Easter! I have been lurking on this thread for a while and now I have my first BLRW chick. She hatched this morning and my little girl is over the moon to have Easter chicks.

I am glad to finally be a member of the BLRW group and look forward to learning more about this breed.
