Yeah I never put new chickens in anything when I take them home, I think it stresses them out more. I just put newspaper on the floorCool. .. so no crate or anything? They just chilled in the back seat? !![]()
No, no typo..I have no idea of the sex...no sickle feathers no saddle feathers. Pale comb and wattles. Colored like a male, but small like a pullet. Darker wing feathers..I think it is sexually delayed. It is a cull no matter the sex, however I was waiting for it to grow a bit more. It is pretty small compared to my males at this age.Five months delisha? Is that a typo?
Quote: This is a beautiful pullet.
Your male on the bottom is really nice too. I hope he develops the way you would like him.

I was hoping, but you know how that goes. LOL so i'll definitely need another blue roo. i'd rather not breed daughter to father. I'm thinking the bottom roo is out of my splash hen, just because he has the same type she did at that age, while this pullet (yay!) looks like my foley girl did.

Why would you not want to breed her to her dad?

because if that other cockerel (from my splash girl) turns out the way I'm thinking, he's going to have better type than Big'un... (aka dad) my splash girl is my #1 choice among all 3 for best type IMO...
also, breeding parent to offspring, you're inbreeding too close IMO. I'd rather breed half sibs and minimize the inbreeding. but first and foremost, I would choose the roo with best type. and I SERIOUSLY think that cockerel is going to out-do dad.

I think your plan is a great one..
however..breeding the best chicks back to the parent is something to think about. Chickens breeding programs are different than other animals. It is not too close to breed males to mom and females to dad. You can always try it down the road too. Chicks get type from mom and color from dad. Your young pullet has excellent type so far. All her chicks should have good type. She has OK lacing so far and it should improve as she matures and to improve on her chicks, the dad might be the better choice unless that new chick has better lacing than dad. I do not know who her dad is.... you do and you would know more than anyone. He is producing better than himself and that is priceless. I would defiantly be repeating that breeding again. She is a very pretty chick. I wish I had one like that.
Quote: This is the sire... i'm sure you've seen me post him before... his feathers are a mess right now because of all the mud and moulting...
and the pic of all 3 I use in my breed folder (for swaps to show parents, etc)
the pullets mother is my foley girl on the left. the cockerel I like's out of the splash girl on the right.
