Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

I edited and deleted a few recent posts. Lets not get our feathers in a ruffle over words here. Roo, Rooster, Cockerel, Cock, etc....we all know what they mean. So no throwing stones please. Use which ever term you are comfortable with and don't attack others for the ones others use.

Thank you for your cooperation,

Could you please tell me what helped you determine the gender? I'm normally pretty good at this, unless it's chipmunk chicks without eyeliner...gets me every time...so, I'd really like to learn the signs, if you wouldn't mind sharing.

I'm afraid you were a victim of a not-at-all-funny joke. There's no way to accurately determine sex just based on the pictures you posted. If it was vent sexed as a pullet then it's probably a pullet. If not, you'll start to get an idea of sex as the feathers come in and it should be really clear by 6 weeks. The nice thing about Wyandottes is that the feathering is so different between the two genders that it can make it easier.

Well now I have to ask how you can tell the sex at 6 weeks! I have the worst time with my Blue Laced Red Wyandottes and usually have to hold on to them for quite some time before I can be sure of the gender. I even had some pullets that I just raised up that were making me a little nervous for a while as I waited for their adult feathers to come in. I can usually spot a few cockerels early on and pull them out of the grow out pen but for me it has never been very clear at 6 weeks for all of the birds.

I've decided to move on from this thread. I have enjoyed looking at all the lovely pictures and reading the stories. However this whole thread has been tainted for me and I'm not one to keep negativity in my life. I wish you all the best of luck with your birds.

That is really quite sad, and it is very unfortunate that someone that hasn't even been a part of this thread has managed to ' drop in ' and cause so much trouble.

I can accurately sex mine at 5-6 weeks. Wattles have ' dropped ' by then.

Ok, everyone! I'm back. The situation has been resolved and will not be a problem anymore. Glad we can get back to discussing our pretty BLRs now! How are yours doing? Anyone got any egg pics for me to drool over since my babies are only about a week old?
