blue laced wyondottes with a standard comb?

i was just looking at my blrw chicks and noticed that one has a standard comb. is this normal in wyondottes?
Hi, welcome to BYC! :frow

It's unfortunate that many hatchery Wyandottes are turning up with straight combs. This is happening WAY to often, because the contracted breeders for the hatcheries keep straight combs in their flock in order to combat the fertility issues associated with the rose comb. :he

That being said the GLW I got with a straight comb was way prettier than her sister! :love

I have one of each!

what causes the standard combs in wyondottes?

It's because the contracted hatchery breeders keep straight combed birds in order to keep their fertility up, because the rose comb gene is associated with infertility. It is said that if they breed all rose combs they are breeding out their fertility. If eggs aren't fertile, nothing hatches and they have no birds to sell.
