Blue/red Orps?? Genetics & possible projects?

Wouldn't it be better to change the subject?

I don't want red orpingtons. Blue laced red would be lovely, though. There are some people on BYC already working on them, so I'll be in good company.

I was only trying to use learn from people that have a true grasp on genetics. That's why I'm on the Breeding, Genetics & Showing forum. If you are here to flame, please stop. If breeding for other colors bothers you, post a rant on Random Ramblings. BUT please don't stop me from learning by clogging this up simply because you don't like what I'd like to do with MY chickens.

We all have different ways of managing our flocks & different goals. I know people with only 1 breed of chicken & that makes them happy. I have a friend who has thousands of chickens and sells eggs commercially & that works for her. I have friends with many breeds all happily roaming together & that's how they like it. I know someone who chose to concentrate on improving his stock of 2 breeds plus has a little side color project & it works very well for him. I would never be critical of anyone's personal "chicken style" nor would I try to criticize a perfect stranger for being different than I am.

Please... get a grip.

Go for it! I find the Blue Red Laced would be a great start on a new color for Orpingtons. Your project, do what you want!

Everything Orp does not have to come from another country, it's called creativity and a dream!

I agree with Tuffoldhen.....go for it. Someone on the other side of the ocean once did the same thing to get the great colors they have over there....no reason we can't do the same here.

Hi everyone,
I am the breeder and my birds are from Gordies stock. You can see the parent birds on my webpage.

Here is a boy my Splash girl hatched out, I know she is the mom since she was in a pen going broody with purchased eggs under her, she must of decided to add one of her own (as the purchased eggs were a totally different breed)

Here is what he looks like today

There is a very slight chance the Buff Orp is the sire as he did get in the pen one day, but that was a very long time ago, and I made sure not to collect eggs for a good three weeks after. But I must say now I wish I had noted it on the calender.

Anyway, just some added info for the group to consider.

So after looking at these do you still think <<The bird appears to be columbian restricted (as Henk said) and birchen. I say birchen because his wing bay appears to be blue. He is carrying melanotic- he has black in his hackles. He does not carry the pattern gene.>>

I am thinking I may have to separate my Splash hen again and collect her eggs and see what she hatches, (unfortunately the Blue and Black hens both are broody at this time)

Sorry to butt in- but the "rooster" looks like a red sex link hen. Is that the right photo?
Maybe I'm having computer problems but I've seen alot of overexposed images on here in the past few days. Not all- just some.

As for the blue/red project: why not?
