Blue/red Orps?? Genetics & possible projects?

I've had the same color come out with chicks that were from a Blue Orpington rooster over a Buff Orpington hen. I didn't pursue it tho after only one generation.

I've found that extended black (& related colours) X buff (the ones I've used are on wheaten) gives this effect. Extended black cross other colours tends to be, as it is supposed to be, black with leakage. I have thought of reasons why this might be, but don't know how accurate they are.​

Krys, this is a little off topic...but I wanted to say something.

I don't know how well you know your Harry Potter, but you remind me of Dumbledore when he says that he only assumes, but in general, his assumptions are generally correct. Don't know why...it just came to me!

Heterozygous (E/?) tend to leak red or silver especially in males. Males and females missing melanotic or charcoal plus heterozygous E/? leak even more ; females in the hackles and males in the pyle zone. Males leaking red or silver in the breast have to be columbian restricted. I think the same thing goes for females that are not wild type. Wild type females that are black have a dark red breast.

Dumbledore seemed rather a good bloke. So I hope it was a compliment.

We've been a 'Harry Potter' household for very many years. We've done walking children around Aberystwyth town centre with lightning marks drawn on foreheads & been woken up repeatedly at 5 & 6 in the morn by 5 year olds clutching book saying "May we have some more Harry Potter please?"

I've crossed exhibition black Orps quite a few times. In my experience what you describe is what happens in most cases. But it is not the result when these same exhibition black Orps are crossed to buffs Orps (on wheaten). There was a similar thread on the coop some months ago.​
