Blue Tick Hounds...We got one!

It's encouraging to hear that they can learn the difference between cats that are family pets and those that are not. Ideally we don't want her to go after any cats as we live a short distance from my in-laws and they have a family of wild or feral cats that stat around their house.

Angel is very obedient when we tell her "NO." She stops in her tracks when she hears it. I was out in the yard with her this morning and one of our cats kept coming close to us because the cats have to be where I am and are not too afraid of dogs. Angel sat obediently when the cat approached. It was clear that she was working at sitting there calmly but she did well and I praised her for it.

Congrats on your new Hound dog. We have a 2 yr old leggy beagle named hank that we found that got seperated in hunting season. No tags and about to starve to death in the woods. He has been a good dog. He just doesnt bark and watch like a regular dog and he is a semi silent hunter. Doesnt bark till he sees his prey. My uncle had a blue tick hound growing up, very pretty dogs, I love the blue tick color.

Congrats on the new hound dog! We love em! We have had just about every kind of coon hound there is. We only have redbones now. Yes, they can be trained to stay away from the cats, but since yours was trained TO chase cats, it may be more difficult in your situation. I would be very leary of leaving her alone with them. They are very loveable.

Yes, it will be a very long time, if ever we decide to trust her with the kitties. The cats do roam around outside during the day and she has made progress when it comes to lunging at them and barking. I'm thinking it may be possible for her to learn the difference between Bobcats and Mt. Lions being something she can chase, and domestic cats being off limits. Like I said, we don't have any Bobcats or Mt. Lions on the island where we live. She did sniff noses with one of the cats the other day, while I was standing right there.

She's really a sweet dog, and I'm glad we have her.

They have a special spot in my heart! Your little one is just adorable....
As to cats...

I lik'em, it just didn't work well with ours. But your hound looks young...still hope...especially if she's spot on with the No command.
He trained them to be 'coon hunters'.
I'll rummage around and post pictures of my Dan and Lady...they were "our" family dogs growing up....They were BIG blueticks...Dan was one of the largest around.
Momma got pics I know...but not near her...

Anyway,
Congratulations and enjoy.

Well we had (keyword "had" ) 7 dogs........2 beagles, 1 adorable mutt, 2 dachshund, ! norwegian elkhound and 1 blue tick coonhound........

I have to admit it was the blue tick that got us in trouble and she had to go! We rehomed her to gentleman way out in the middle of nowhere who had many other coonhounds.
They all were obviously of good health and well behaved and NOT a puppy mill!

Our problem with ours was that Ginger would obey every command except the "hush" or "no bark"....kinda finally got us in trouble with the city (because we are a "bit") above the allowed animals per acre within city limits

Glad you found your baby though!!! She has found I good home!

My husband and I could never live in the city. We've both lived in the country our whole lives. Besides, he loves to go rabbit hunting and always has a beagle/rottwieler mix that loves to do the barking and baying thing all night long sometimes. The new dog, Angel has a nice voice too

. She is very vocal and loves attention so she lets us know if anything is disturbing her, or if she's excited to see us. We've also learned that she barks when we start the car to leave, and when I'm upset. She barks a lot but not without a reason, and not for long periods of time.

They are the most ignorant dogs ever! Stubborn and will not mind!! They rip stuff up and kill my cats! They even growled at me! Our neighbors have 3 and they have done nothing but terrorize the neighborhood. The males are the WORST! I would never own one. Pit Bulls are great dogs. They obey if trained properly and are loving sweet dogs. People that can not train them or give them a lot of time they should never have them. Its the owners that should be euthanized not the animal. But these Blue ticks are stupid!!
