Based on a lot of search result reading, I know it's too early to tell for sure. I know that BO's are hard to sex at this age.

I'm looking for some reassurance. Our Penny is 2 1/2 weeks old. She is the only BO we have, so I can't compare her to the others. She started a comb last week, and this week, I see wattle buds. They're not red, but they're there. At this age, I'm worried that our favorite pullet is not a pullet. If she's a he, we'll have to find him a new home.

I'm looking for tales of BO chicks developing wattles at this age AND turning out to be hens.

Did you buy her straight run or sexed?

Wattles at 2 weeks would have me worrying.. Pictures would help.. Though at this age it's hard to say for sure. If there is any colour at all to it, it would be a boy.

We bought her sexed. We thought... I'll get a photo up later this afternoon. Thanks.

I would have to say boy. Here is a pic for reference of my BO at 2 1/2 weeks old. He's on the right.

Well, rats!
Thanks for the replies. It looks like no one is jumping in with "my chick did that at that age, and she lays great eggs now..."
I think we'll hang on to Penny for another week. In the mean time, starting to look for a new place for him (sniff sniff) to live.

I would have to re home mine if any of them were cockerels as well. I am sure you've gotten attached at this point too. Ugh. Sorry. Is it the wattle that gives it away? I'm wondering because one of mine is larger than the others, growing faster mainly and she ( i hope) seems to let the others eat before she does. I don't see a wattle though.

Hi Hamstery, you found my thread. :) I think it's the wattles, and especially the red in the wattles that's showing. We're starting to call Penny - in anticipation of cockerelness- Abraham Lincoln, instead. The folks above seem fairly certain that he is no lady. I hope yours are all pullets, and you don't have to find any new homes.
