When I mentioned to friend of mine that I want to breed certain rare breeds she told me to get in touch with Bob. So, I started reading his posts, the threads he started to "get to know him". I was blown away by his passion, his enthusiasm and he was so humble, so down to earth. I thought "what a wonderful person". I was looking forward to talking to him, but my plans are all future dreams though, 2 years from now, if all goes well. The time isn't right, I'm going to leave the country again, no point talking to him now, I thought. I didn't want to waste his time, talking about things I'm hoping to start with 2-3 years from now only, because I can't see the point of doing them now. Now I wish I had... I missed the opportunity to talk to that great man and be even more inspired than I already am, just from reading his posts here. Because I take time for granted, there's always tomorrow, next week, next year, right? Let's get through this month and then we'll see, there is no rush, is there? Saturday morning I logged on here and the first thing I saw was "Bob Blosl died..." Time waits for no-one.
So I decided to stop wasting time and get started now. Not next year, or the year after, but now. I'll start by reading through Bob's writings, his posts here, his articles, his website and learn from him and continue to be inspired by him. He may be gone, but he left us his thoughts, his passion, his teachings. We have a lot of him still here. Wonderful posts that made me smile and dream and always will. Then there's the articles he wrote.
I've also decided to add heritage RIR to my "to do" list, to breed those wonderful chickens. For Bob, for the breed, for the Fancy, for the love of poultry.
The poultry world and this community lost a wonderful man, but a part of him will live on here, if we work on keeping it going. Keep his threads going and keep sharing knowledge with the newbies. Work on keeping the breeds going that he was so passionate about. Spend a few extra $ and buy Heritage instead... Whether you do it for the Fancy, or for Bob, or for the breed. Just do it.
