A better term would be, "Standard" Bred rather than, "Heritage".
Chris

But there are some "standard bred" birds that are not heritage. I would not consider Japanese bantams to be heritage, but they are bred to the standard. etc.

And there are breeds that have been bred and raised in the U.S. since the 1800's and there not considered, "Heritage" in ALBC's eyes just because there not in the APA standard.

And herein lies the issue...are bantams considered "heritage" by the ALBC?

The APA has a committee studying Heritage birds. So far the APA has no position on Heritage birds. They will shortly though. The ALBC is currently the organization that has designated what is "Heritage". There are many breeds of bantams chickens that could fit into the "Heritage" category, but so far no one has talked much about them.

Hello everyone, just wanted to pop in and join the thread. I have realized that three of the breeds I raise are on the ALBC list. While none of them are listed critical, if these birds aren't bred correctly to the SOP, we will lose these heritage birds. Right now I have a pair of LF Salmon Faverolles, a trio of Buff Orpingtons, and a small flock of Blue/Black Standard Cochins. Here's some pictures:

Kassandra that is one of the cutest photos I've seen, send it to Rob so it can be a picture of the week. Also enter it into photo contest at the different hatcheries, they are always having contests. That is precious
