I suppose it's not so confusing in that the wording is confusing to me.

Can you tell me how this statement is untrue?

"All APA birds bred towards the APA standard that are were a recognized breed before the 20th century and can breed naturally are considered 'heritage' however not all 'heritage' birds are bred towards the APA standard."

We can only assume that the birds will remain productive past 3-7 years (depending on gender) old as breeder birds are vital to the continuation of a specific line of birds. Even if the productiveness will inevitably decrease past the first year.

I'm sorry, I'm using the generalization that show birds are naturally slow to mature. I shouldn't assume that. I'm assuming bantams are not included in the 'heritage' terminology? Or are they?

ETA: I've been wanting to see stock of Duane Urch's Langshans as well, but cannot seem to find any photos of his stock either.

Untrue? It is a true statement.

Oh good. So I am at least grasping the concept. Understanding that the ALBC covers most species was also a huge help. It just sounded as though another group was randomly created for poultry only. Now that I know the group covers most areas of livestock it seems a bit easier to understand why there are poultry aspects to it for birds that are considered "heritage." Seems really confusing for those that are searching for show birds and will hear the terminology for "heritage". I hope it's not used interchangeably.

A better term would be, "Standard" Bred rather than, "Heritage".
There are a lot of breeds of poultry that have been in the U.S. a lot longer than most of the breeds ALBC are calling, "Heritage" but since they are not in the APA standard they are not considered a "Heritage" breed.

The ALBC has a lot of flaws in there system [with poultry] there biggest one is that they include Hatcheries and Hatchery stock in there list of breeds that are or are not;
Critical, Threatened, Watch, Recovering, and in Study.
