You probably did...but what a way to lose some money!!

The males have some yellowing in the saddle feathers. From the condition of the feet feathers, I'm pretty sure it's because of how they were housed, but it could be food too. Genetics maybe as well...ah well. If they won't work, not out too much. Can always use a black or blue male over the females to build up size.

I'll admit it...they need work. I'm hoping some good food and better habitat will boost them, but genetics is gonna play a part in it. I'm proud of the purchase. I'll try to take photos tomorrow, but be prepared to see some yellow. Ugh..I hate recessive white!!!

On the bright side, my favorite blue cockerel got Best of Variety against his father and I was able to compare them directly against each other. He is a MAJOR improvement on his sire. Nice leg length, no brassiness in his hackles or saddle feathers (yet). His sire was already showing brassiness at this age. Can't wait to see what he's gonna do. I'm probably going to be putting a nicely put together white female in there to increase the size of the whites. If I can get another black cockerel with some size, I'll use him over the whites.

LOTS of planning. Especially how to fit 12 birds into my Aveo...

ETA: Chris, you knew it was just a matter of time!

I was looking for bantams, but knew I didn't have the facilities for them to be safe in. But the largefowl are doing great in the steel cages!

Woohoo!! Getting some standard salmon faverolles in the next month or two. Still not sure if I'm gettng chicks or eggs but they are from the Pattersons. Can't wait. Now to build them a pen. Oh wait. I still have 3 call duck pens to build.

Well glad your getting some LF don't get to overloaded! How are the blue and black bantams? Spread them around for me if you could this spring. They are still so rare I am afraid if someone has trouble this winter they might be lost.
