Walt and Scott, thank you, but I am only "doing unto others" - people have been so good and so helpful to me in getting me started, how can I not help other people? And look out, Scott, I may still mooch some eggs one of these years.
A lot of people on this thread, not only Bob and Walt, have been SO helpful to me personally with their info and advice - I cannot tell you all how much I appreciate you all!

Trivia information related to Heritage Large Fowl and the growing interest in them: I am please to report that the Delaware Poultry Club, which we began in October 2010, is up to over 90 members. And if memory serves me, we are now international, with a member from Australia and two from Canada-

Now how can you post something like that and not tell us!

All I will add is that it was not a dating service.......

Strange as it seems it started with an argument......or shall we say a difference of opinion. The downside of the web is that you don't always know how people mean things since you can't see them and you have no idea what they really mean, since you don't have the visual clues you have in person. Lets just say the first couple emails were a finding out where we were each "coming from". All I knew was that I had all these crazy Del women all over my case. Once Kathy and I figured out that we had common goals things worked out.

This is a lesson to us all. People don't always come across the way they really are online, because we have no visual clue what their attitude really is.
Kathy it turns out is a sweetheart and now that I know that she is crazy, it is easy for me to get along with her. hahaha

I would recommend that you join the United Orpington Club. When you join you will get a breeders list. Most breeders will breed for their production puropses too because if you dont have good production qualities in a bird thats original purpose was production then their shape and type will be off.

The breed clubs that are active like UOC are great resources for finding good breeders. If you don't maintain good production, a person will quickly find that they are at the "dead end" that we sometimes hear about.

BTW: OSUman....haven't seen a kilroy drawing since the early 50's. They were everywhere after WWII.

Both. Missed the Dominiques in the P Press..

Do you have any pictures of your Anconas?

In the new Sotrey's Guide to raising chickens, there's a photo, albeit not too good,, of one of our Ancona cocks.

I'm really poor with cameras and don't know how to post a photo on this site.

Cheers!

Go the the Index, the very first item is Frequently Asked Questions, chose it, the third question is how to post pics.

There is a min post requirement for newbies to be able to post - - -
Once you are able to post - - these are the directions
To Post Photos On BYC Forum:

The easiest way to display your coop, chickens, and other fun pictures on BYC is to use the BYC Image Upload Tool . Here are the steps:

1) Click on the "Uploads " link at the very top of every page (in the blue menu bar).
2) Once the "Upload image" page loads, click the "Browse" button and find the jpg or gif picture on your computer and then click the "Submit" button.
3) Your image will be uploaded (and resized if needed) and you will be presented with a thumbnail of your picture along with two image code options:

Thumb - This is the code you use to show a small version of your image that can be clicked to show the full size image.
Image - This is the code you use to show the full size image directly in your post.

4) Copy the image code and paste it into your post.

YHFarm,
I normally use mozilla firefox as my browser. I could not post pictures with it onto this site. My 16 YO son also could not do it. I switched to safari and was able to do it. Maybe it is your browser.
