Hey Charlie thanks for the help for us White Orp breeders. If there was ever a variety of a breed that is near extinction in the USA it is White Orps. It is great that you are sharing info for others to enjoy these lovely birds. That is why my wife let me bring in my duo to insure they get the lites and heat to get them going and into layin fertile eggs.
I bought mine at the Indiana State Fair with a little help from an Old School Stringman Jack who is responsible for fillin the cages. Thank you Jack!
I was told she is not all that great by a breeder in our Club. But, beggars can't be choosers. She is all I have far as pullet/hens go. I am trying to get another couple of chicks from her breeder here this spring. HOPEFULLY!!!

That is a great looking flock. No skinny birds in that pic.

Gosh, thanks so much, Walt! Actually, they don't move around so much this time of year, so they do tend to fatten up. I let them range quite a bit on summer and they lose a bit of weight from running around so much, but it's so good for them I just can't not turn them out!

They are not too fat and some extra fat is a good thing in the winter....especially your kind of winter.

I am on my way to a show in Eureka. It will rain up there first, so I will be coming back in it.
"They" said it was going to rain today last week, so I will believe it when I see it. I have had to start watering the plants and lawns, so we need some rain.

Bill,

Your white hen has good type. How much does she weight? You can mate her to a buff orp and cull them heavy. Terry Britt used a White Rock a few years back on his White Orps. You might also consider a White Wyandotte male. Just cull anything with a rose comb and yellow legs.
