How does one get on the right track to getting these heritage breeds. I am so loving the heritage Barred Plymouth Rocks and the Heritage Rhode Island Reds. I am pulling my hair out trying to locate someone who ships hatching eggs.

Join the club and ask the President of that club who they can refer you too. I agree buy a breeding age duo before buying eggs and or chicks. Then you know what yor getting. You can wait 7 months to find out that the eggs or chicks you bought are not of quality you may want. OR go to shows and ask aound.

Here is a better idea. Forget the breed clubs and just join the American Poultry Association at http://www.amerpoultryassn.com

New members get the current year book with lots of advertising by breeders that want to sell their stock. They usually list their winnings as well. You can spend $10 here and $12 there to join breed clubs and end up with nothing but a list of possible breeders that may never respond to you. The two breed clubs that I serve on the board have no membership fee. The economy is tight and we know folks have less cash. So join the parent club at http://www.amerpoultryassn.com/APA_ShoppingMall3.htm Its the best value!

Jim thank you for the links. I appreciate any help I can get. In my area, chicken breeds are so mixed, it is hard to find a true breed. I take pride in my chickens and I want to carry on the linage of the Best Of The Best. I want my children to know these wonderful breeds and to carry on the excellence of these breeds. Preserve them for generations to come.
