Just got a phone call from a fellow who says he calculates his shipping of his birds box and then prints out a label from his printer then takes the box and the bird to the post office pre paid and saves a lot on the shipping.
Do any of you send say a dozen eggs or ten started chicks in a box and print out your postage and then drop it off at the post office?":???????????
He said the savings is a lot com paired to going to the window. example I send ten started chicks white rock large fowl in a box weight is about 9 and half pounds its costing about $65. He thinks it would be reduced to about $45.
Look forward to what you guys may do who ship allot of eggs ect. bob

Bob I print all my labels online. The important thing is that you have a very accurate scale. When I've shipped birds before I have saved $20-$50!

I ship my eggs overnight using fedex as I have a corporate account from my "real" job!

Also saves a lot of time at the Post Office. Go to USPS.COM. Directions are easy to follow. You pay with a credit card or PAYPAL.

Savings can be a lot. Plus no long lines at the post office. Just smile and set on the end of the counter. I always try to get the clerk's attention so they know the eggs/chicks are there. We use a digital scale and then round it up to the next whole pound. If its 2# 6oz we print the label as 3#.

If I shipped a Priority Mail Large Flat Rate to Bob it would cost:

Thank you. I am shipping some white Leghorn eggs tomorrow and will try it. I took a beating with shipping chicks this year as I did not think it would cost that much to ship little chicks.

look at the great scale to weigh your birs with. This is a good one for the money. bob

Any way the people that got them where happy for the rare blood lines and one fellow with the White Rocks is going to be a partner with me so I didn't mind. I also, helped a lady in Mo with some Rhode Island Red bantams and she will post some of the chicks as they grow up. I hated to send her some of these chicks as I know they are going to have great type but again she and I are partners. She is the first regular non master breeder I have shared my Rhode Island Red bantams with. I have two others who are partners or blood brothers raising my new improved strain of Mohawk bantams. Maybe next year more will want the Mohawk bantam which is like the Mohawk large fowl in a small package.

Be leave it or not many Back Yard Poultry hobbyist don't have room for large fowl and five to eight Rhode Island Red bantams can serve the same purpose. Also, the juniors love to show these in Showman Ship contests as they are easy to handle rather than a large fowl.

Thanks again for your help on this. You are a smart bunch out there. Even I can learn.

How do I take a two minute digital video with my camera and post it on U tube so you can see my birds???

That's the next thing I want to master. bob

Bob I bet many of the master breeders are thrilled to have your birds. You are one of the best on this site. I treasure every tip and thought when it comes to breeding EXHIBITION birds you share. Have a great season!!!

I figured out how to do it, so I know you can!

You do it the same way you do your pictures, to get it on to your computer. (Of course, "video," is selected on your camera, instead of a photo, so you can record). Once on the computer you just go to YouTube and set up an account and click on "upload." It is really that simple. Bob, you can email me your video and I will load it on YouTube, if you want. Want some music added to it?

Here is a copy of one of my posts from a different thread. I know, I know, I know....... you don't like those imported Orps, but it's a video!

I took a little video of one of my pens....

Bob, don't forget about me...I may have been the "first regular non master breeder" with your bantams. I hatched another batch this past weekend. I also got a reserve of breed with the bantam pullet this past weekend at the Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival poultry show.

Boy I forgot Matt about you and your son having that trio. I gave Matt son a trio of Mohawk Red Bantams about two months ago one male had three or four points and i kept his brother who had a perfect five point comb to breed from and was going to mate the pullets from this matting to this ckl next year. Next I had a hen that was in the breeding pen with New York Reds ckl and gave that female to him and a pullet from last year that I did not think I needed this year. This pullet beat me at one show for best of breed. Then they showed her at this show Matt is talking about and got Res Breedt thats pretty good coming right out of the breeding pen for four months. They have a few chicks out of the male from New York and the male i call Judge that has large fowl type in a bantam. Any way at least with this trio I can go and use the another year or if the chicks turn out good can bring over a breeder to breed with them or borrow them back to my place. I live about 20 miles from Matt 1616.

Mailed the eggs off today in a number 7 box and it went well. I had packed the eggs in a smaller box and then put this box in the number seven box and packed it with shavings. It cost less than $17. now I got to get more #7 boxes from the post office. When i was waiting in line a guy came in with a big white plastic crate full of small boxes and all was pre done at his house and printed out like you said. He left the on the counter and took off in his car. Neat idea.

Thanks Kathy for the tip on the video. Will work on it as I am selling my white leghorn bantams cheap and want to put a video on so a guy can see them live instead of still pictures.

Boy those are some pretty fluffy Orpingtons. I thought they where black cochins at first. Maybe some day when I grow up I will get me some.

looks like this thread is stuck in neutral so I will try to shove it down the hill and re start it. Does anyone raise Brahmas? I have had the best year with Buff Brahamas, then white rocks then white Leghorns and last Rhode Island Reds. Should produce some good reds later but that is how my year is going. For the past two years the Brahmas where last.

Any one have blue chickens? That's my wife's favorite color of chickens. When are you going to make a blue red she says.

What color do you think is the hardest to breed for a beginner? what color do most beginners want to start with because the picture they see is so pretty?

blue

Hey Bob, I follow this thread 'cause I've chosen to raise EOs, even though they're not a recognized breed. I really appreciate the knowledge you share here. I don't have much (or anything) to add to the thread, because I just started keeping chickens last fall.
