Well, I could see red in the picture (when I was posting without my glasses), so I thought it was one of the RIRs. I knew I took pictures of alot more, but was just looking for "red!"

Now come on, I am new, but I really do know the difference between the Buckeyes and the RIRs.

Had to tease someone in this thread..
I know you know the difference I just had to poke a joke. Heck if I didn't have my glasses on I may not have seen it myself...

Gingernutranger, Tnchickenut has bantam Dels - see post 56, just above your last post.

There are so many of these breeds that I would love to be involved with, but I don't have the room or the expertise at this point. Hopefully I will get good with my Dels and Orps and then I can expand.

That beautiful red color on the RIR looks to be somewhere between a blood bay and a mahogany bay, if you are relating it to horses, Bob. Rare and beautiful.

Eventually I plan on working with the Delaware Bantams. I have not found one breeder of them ever besides one on eggbid a few years ago with very poor colored birds.

I know someone with them I will look up his name and PM it to you he is in PA

Yes I do! They aren't SQ (yet) but a pretty good start, I'd say. I'll be working on them slowly... focusing more on standards.

I got big plans for spring, and will be diggin' in and really working the Delawares. Going to be exciting!

I got other breeds too... still, Dels are my biggest obsession.

This may be the place to discuss this... I have tried another thread... what about Sultans? The ALBC directory shows only one breeder. I know they arent' the dual purpose type we all like, but they have DROPPED on the ALBC list to critical and to me that is a shame.

When I first got my first few chicks... I never thought I would be here today working to get the best and oldest stock of any one breed, let alone multiple, and giving up my yard to coops upon coops. Everyday I read books, magazines, online articles... and not one day goes by without me learning something new. I'm still VERY new to this and have a disadvantage of never growing up on a farm or in the country or being able to join 4H.... I guess that is why I work double time to catch up.

Thanks for this thread! It's nice to get real experienced and knowledged people on here. Lots of pet owners... but the old timers (

) were few and far between online. trust me... I say that as a term of endearment.

A few more Reds.

Love your pictures, Chris. I was wondering something about the reds .... I notice it in your last picture too .... the tail on the girls... why is it that some carry their tails higher and some let them droop. Is there anything to this?

And may I add a question about the differences between the single comb and rose comb? The single comb seems to be a thicker, chunkier bird- is that a recognized difference between the two, or is it just these two birds?

The one on the left is the "Shy" one and see just let her tail drop..
You do have to watch there is a lot of hen that don't have the correct tail angle (10°) and are a bit flat. I do cull hens that don't show correct tail angle and can say that I get one or two a season that I have to call for bad tails..
I might have a better picture of her on a disk if so Ill post it..
