You have some of the best SPR's I have seen lately. No house chickens....Bob is the one with the diapers. I hope they aren't for him.....I think they are for his Mr Silkie.

BA HA HA! Mr. Silkie, indeed!!

Well, my line certainly aren't "prolific layers" either. If I can ever get them close enough to SOP to work past type issues (which will not happen in my lifetime), I'd work on the laying, as they sure ought to be better layers.

How many eggs do you think they lay in a year?

(quietly tip toes in) Boy I feel out of my element coming here to ask, but I want to know ;P LOL. so...

Would any of you Masters of Poultry be able to explain to me what is meant when they say in the standards that the body is square or rectangular, etc...? I can only see that shape when viewing the body from the front of a bird, not the profile. Such as the Cornish-X looks rectangular (very wide but squared from the front). Am I understanding that correctly? I've been told that, no, it's a description of the profile, but... I just don't see it?? If that's the case, could you help me see it? LOL

Thanks so much!

Hmm...I've never kept track, but I would venture about 120-150. I do not keep lights on my flocks. Being Plymouth Rocks, I recall being a bit disappointed that first year the began laying, but that wasn't one of my decision factors in choosing to work with them.

The RIR is rectangular, but only from the side. Maybe Bob will be so kind as to post a picture of a RIR with a rectangle drawn over the body. A Cornish X has no standard, so may look different depending on what it is crossed with. The only straight line on a Cornish is the top line...everything else should be rounded and the body deep..no squares or rectangles. Each breed has a different profile. If it is a X breed then it can look like anything.

I don't think that is too bad, but I don't count on my birds for food either. Do they taper off and lay even less after they are two?

I'm not Bob but I will see what I can do.
