Yes, it's true.

HaHa this cracked me up + the fact that Walt said he was the "meanie" around here, I don't see him as a "meanie" just blunt and straight to the point.

My Grandad was a Baptist minister, he would come across as a "meanie" to most; but I knew him as just a stern man and No B.S. and "meant every word he said", he approved/confirmed me of this on more than one occasion. I still haven't forgotten some of the hard learned lessons either(school of hard knocks come to mind here) LOL

You have seen the pictures. To set the record straight I was defrocked some time back.........lol ...j/k ....I'm doing chickens now instead of religion.

If I think no one is going to believe me, I take pictures. I had a 8mm movie camera when I was a teenager and started recording things from the mid 50's on.

I've really enjoyed the genetics discussions, my degree is in biological science with a focus on genetics, my brain works that way and I'll be following the new thread I like knowing the dominance/recessive/linkage factors so when someone says "I wouldn't cross to that breed due to its lobe/shank/comb/etc" I understand what's behind that statement. That personality trait used to drive my riding instructor crazy, when she'd say "pick up the left rein" or "shift some weight into the right stirrup" I'd always want to know why/how it had worked. She finally just gave me a rather extensive reading list and I read them all.

Anyway, that said, when I start breeding heritage large fowl I will still base my decisions on curves, lines, sIze, etc and hopefully lots of mentor/OT input. While "breeding" 20 generations in 20 minutes on paper is fun and really easy on the feed bill, for real world applications I want to apply their lessons learned rather than start from scratch trying to reinvent a wheel that's been successfully in motion for many, many years. And now back to lurking/learning.

I just got out of my wood shop snuffing glue and sawdust and thought I would get on and see whats happening. Here is some pictures of Heritage Barred Rocks I could find in my computer pictures section. I have a few more. I saw your pictures of your barred rock male. I had one like him when I was 8 years old. I got a dozen eggs from my uncle for 25 cents. They lay ed and set like crazy. I used them for years as sitters with my R I Reds that I showed as a four H kid.

There are very few good lines of barred rocks left anymore that can be called Heritage quality. There are thousands sold from feed stores and hatcheries each year but they are not in the same league. By the way I am going to a chicken show Saturday in Pensacola Florida. There will be four mean chicken men there that we hired to judge our chickens. They are called American Poultry Association Judges. I have one chickens a white rock bantam pullet who may do well and not get the mean pen marking.

How many of you got your Poultry Presses in the mail today???????????????????????????

I will be getting two or three phone calls this week asking me did you see that Plymouth Rock on page six or that Chanticleer on the front page?

Some nice large fowl in there this issue. If you would like to subscribe to this fine paper on Chickens let me know I will send you a direct link. This is their 99th year publishing it.

Well got to go and sniff some more glue and give Mr. Silkie some raw hamburger. bob

Yes, I love roosters more then hens. I think it's the pompousness. And they're huge. I really should save up some of my money and get a pair of high quality Rocks.

I think Bob is looking for a term/name of this type of hybrid like vigor the diverse genetics bring back/invigorate by doing this strain/line crossing.(distant but still related) in away?

Like the old ads for the NHs that used to be advertised"spizinktrum" the old man said he NH males had LOL

Speaking of New Hampshires. Has anyone figured out yet (if it's even possible) which strain of New Hampshires was sent to Germany and then came back to the US recently as the German line of New Hampshires? Do you think it was the old "spizinktrum" strain you mention above?
