Hi,
Day One and 6 of 7 eggs pipping. These are Junior over May. March's trio heads out this weekend to her 4-H junior member. After they leave, am putting Junior with March to see if I can get more Junior/March chicks. I have 20 Junior/ May chicks and May isn't laying right, now but March is.
So that's the plan.
Best.

If you are having problems with fertility and hatchability, what should you do?

I have been feeding Calf Manna since last molt and am now feeding a ration that includes fish meal. My breeds are not the fluffy butt type, so there shouldn't be a problem with contact.

What factors can affect fertility & hatchability?

Thanks in advance,

Hello Ive been looking for white cornish standards would you have any available or know of anyone. thanks logan

Feed them 1 cubic inch per day per bird of sprouted forage oats which are no younger than 4 days and no older than 7 days.
Best,
Karen

Many things...Parasites ( Lice and mites ), and Worms being the most obvious. Check on that , and get them out into the sunshine on grass where they are meant to be.It's spring, and they need both.

I could not agree more on getting them out into pasture it reduces stress in the pecking order and let's them forage on the good stuff happy girls make happy chicks

Pasture & sunshine, they are not lacking. I don't even use the netting any more. They only go into pens briefly, so I can gather their eggs. Why sprouted oats?

They were treated for lice last year. I'm checking them regularly and have not seen any parasites or worms. I did give the cock birds wormer but did not get around to worming the hens. If I worm them now, how long before their eggs can be used for hatching?

One of the lines in my Dorkings is the same as Dick Horstman's. He is now having the same issues as I am. So, I'm wondering if it could be genetic?

Thank you. They are a work in progress and I still have lots to improve. I wanted to hatch over 100 this year and it's been a slow start. First hatch- out of 50+ eggs, 8 Dorkings & no Delawares. Second hatch, I put a Delaware cockerel in with those hens and got 5 chicks out of a dozen eggs and 9 Dorkings out of about 24 eggs. Now, I'm collecting eggs from single matings. Same Dorking cock bird for all, so far.
