Since these are my first chickens ever I'll say "they all look the same to me". I need a year to learn what I have. This is my second post so no permission for pictures. I'll email a couple to Bob and maybe he will post them.

Walt, You just about caused me to have a heart attack, just decided to work with a couple of variety of Sussex. I just can never decide why it is easier to change the SOP instead of working a little on the Fowl. The main joy to me comes from trying to breed to the SOP.
Exactly

I love this statement. Thank you for joining us and for participating in rejuvenating this line of Mottled Javas.

Well I just found out my LF Buff Rock hatching eggs will be en route tomorrow...should arrive by Friday at the latest!!

Tom ended up with 18 to send me. Express mailed in "lives' shipper from Virginia to AZ...almost coast to coast...may they have a GENTLE trip with decent and stable temps along their journey.

Then it will be up to the "Hatching Gods", me, and my incubator & hatcher....and plain 'ol fate.

Tip of the day!

I really like that!
Most of what our committee gets is people trying to change the Standard to match their birds. The SOP does not match the birds in their yard, so obviously it is wrong. It is generally not the old timers requesting these changes, although every few years some old timers that can't get a pearl eye on their Cornish will try to get it changed to whatever color they have. We are in the middle of "tweeking" the Standard right now, but we won't be doing anything to match someones birds..it is mostly8 trying to get the info into a clearer format.

I am very embarrassed to say I was one of those, in a way. When I was reading up on the Crevecoeur, I read so many complaints that none of the birds had red earlobes. That they had white earlobes originally in France, and basically that they got it wrong here in the USA. Well, It may be so for all I know, but my perspective has changed, and I now am happy to be challenged to bring those red earlobes back again....er...if possible, LOL.

Oh, keep reading up on this thread, it's not that old, though it's growing fast! I'm learning a ton, it's good to learn about all the different breeds. I'm finding my eyes are tuning in to my own birds much better because of this thread (so thank you all for your participation!)

make sure you give the hatching gods an offering, maybe by giving your birds a few raisins or mealworms?? LOL

The Europeans require a red ear lobe too....... that is the problem with believing what you read online.

I keep hearing a similar story about the ear lobes in Dorkings... that originally they were white, yet the APA calls for a red lobe. I think I've even heard this from old timers, yet haven't found any literature to back it up.
I do wish white lobes were a points deduction instead of a DQ.
