4 hours is a commute drive here in Calif. The shortest drive I have to a show is 4 hours, longest 8 hours. That is just within CA.

When you live and make your total paycheck from the farm you get real good about knowing what you can or can't afford to do. Spending the gas money on poultry shows isn't something that is in my budget.

Santa Rosa, SF, 101, lawd, aint even thought bout those places/hwys in ages! Grew up out in CA, 101 through Daly City to San Jose, blek. My Grandma/Dad grew up in Santa Rosa on a farm, where they once had chickens

I remember Santa Rosa being a beautiful place, with the rolling hills. That was almost 20 yrs ago though

Luther Burbank called it the "Chosen place" for a reason. Not too many of the farms you were use to though. Hardly any poultry, apples or dairies left. Pretty much all grapes now. This was a bad year for grapes. The weather would be 100 one day and foggy the next 5. Way too much moisture during the last part of the season. Most of my grapes had rot.

I love it here.

Sonoma County/Petaluma was the egg capitol of the world during the 40's and 50's. All of the poultry buildings were made of redwood, so they are still pretty much still standing. Redwood was the cheapest building material here until the 70's.

They are not great pictures for assessing them, but here are a few shots of my "Columbian Cartel".....LF Columbian Rocks at about 26 weeks old. Taken today in the beautiful sunshine and cool temps!!!

If they aren't they should be. They are one of the oldest breeds in the world. The white , silver gray and the colored were admitted to the SOP in 1874 so I think they are. The Red was admitted in 1995 so that variety technically would not be a heritage chicken.
