I just realized who you were...... you emailed us about call ducks a while back too. It was nice chatting with you. Guess we will be seeing you around the shows next fall. Did you show some of the ducks you picked up in Columbus?

Patterson is a great guy and he has awesome birds.

Ok guys this may be a little off topic but I figured since you guys are interested in heritage breed poultry you might also be interested in old methods of farming. I worked on a farm that grows the majority of their crops with horse- drawn machinery. They provide a full diet for 150 people all through the year in upstate NY. They hand milked their cows up until last year. They raise all of their animals on pasture and are beginning to transition to growing 100% of their own grain for feed on farm!

The name of the farm is Essex farm in upstate NY on lake Champlain. Mark and Kristin Kimball are the owner and farmers. Kristin recently wrote a book if you want to check it out its for sale on amazon and barnes and noble its a great book and an amazing story about going from being a city dweller to running one of the hardest working farms on the country that employs the old "heritage" style of farming.

Here is a link to two interviews with Kristin the bottom one shows some pictures of the farm.

Sorry if I interrupted anyone or strayed to far from the topic of Heritage poultry but I though this farm and book might interest some of you. I know that Mark and Kristin have certainly inspired me to continue my education in agriculture and hopefully one day run a farm similar to theirs. PM me with what you think or post on this thread

Gonna be uploading some photos of the Shawnee National if anyone's interested. Only got photos of the birds on Champion Row and my birds as well as a random Dark Cornish.

I'll be posting photos of the white Langshans I purchased, please feel free to critique!

I'm grinning ear to ear...

We got this very very cute playhouse on craigslist thanks to another byc member's post. We painted the roof, put it together and made a nice large run for our quarantined GORGEOUS silver penciled Plymouth rock girls i got from Kelly Happy Chooks, Wynette's eggs. They are so happy in their new home. It's going to get the full "omelet ranch" treatment (meaning orange/red and lime paint...) just ran out of light today!

Fanny & Sadie love their roosts and I repurposed a child's bench that was in the garbage pile to make nest boxes. Ultimately they will live in the breeding pen, but are in quarantine now. We found we have another 15 feet into our neighbors yard that is ours so we are putting up a good-neighbor fence and going to build huge runs for everyone...

NOW I JUST NEED A ROOSTER FOR MY BREEDING PROGRAM!
