i checked out the site...i am also happy that there is something new for us BJ folks...but i am hoping to see SOP (or as close as possible anyway) pics displayed on these kinds of "official" sites.

as i understand it, BJs should have deep chocolate brown eyes, and roos a very stocky body...

from a heritage, SOP, best-bird-we-can-breed point of view...what do you guys think of the BJs shown here *as examples of the breed*? http://www.javabreedersofamerica.com/p/black-javas.html

i
know none of us have perfect birds...i am asking this cordially.

Stocky? I never thought of it that way. Ours are large birds. Remember the Giants were developed utilizing the Javas. Though Monty and others would attack me for saying it (for the sake of simplicity) I always thought of the Javas as a small-giant. How's that for an oxymoron? lol

The APA SOP calls the eyes: Dark brown.

OK, that is why I thought the body was off for an Asil. He looks very crowheaded. I still have lots to learn ab out the oriental breeds.

He's actually from out your way. A good friend sent me a dozen eggs last year. He was the only one that hatched. So evidently some of the Vietnamese in CA have maintained the breed. Just how many there are in the States is hard to tell. As you know I'm sure, like many ethnic communities, it is quite closed to the rest of us.

A thought on what to do with excessive culls. Has anybody contacted the food banks, or shelters around them to see if they'd take your culls? Any of those places would probably be interested in using your extras to help feed the people they help. Especially if your just going to feed them to the dogs, why not try to see if you could help offset the costs of those who help others?

Just a thought back to lurking and learning....this is the best thread on here.
