I am familiar with some of the literature asserting Aseel's are the oldest. More rigor/more findings is needed for me to accept owing to favoratism of archeological deposits for large boned animals and greater interest in the well to do fowl over those kept by common people. As I understsand it Aseels and like kept by upper classes in part owing to housing requirments for such birds with potential management problems. The phrase documented in archeological and written records needs to be stressed. If genetics are ever employed to determine which breeds or combinations of breeds gave rise to those existing now, then the issue will need to be addressed again. Likely some interesting findings will be made, like those for dogs.

I was reading some of your work on line and I saw that you are a true Doctor. I know that you go by the user name Doc. on another site but I just thought it was just a user name.
If you don't mind me asking what did your get your Doctorate in?

Most breeds until recently raised for multi-purpose (eggs, meat, fiber). If such breeds kept in parallel to Asil's, then they would likely be processed at human table and be hit up again by the village dog which will consume bones as well. Folks from areas of original chicken domestication also often consume bones as well and may have done in ancient times, especially if waste not want not concerns existed. Done it myself. Potential exceptions are fowl of religious, ornamental or entertainment value which are more likely to be deposited intact. Reproductive output and growth rates of most game breeds much lower now than those used for food and fiber. If my understanding is correct, low reproductive output and low growth enables better combat performance which therefore would be typical of ancestral Asil as well. If Asil's also consumed, they would not have been regular table fare for those reasons.

are those R I Reds from some foreighn country? I think I saw some one time from Maylaisa or some place like that. The first thing I thought of is Ma and Pa Kettle.

I think you guys have given me a perfect diet aid. I will print off the picture of the GaDong Tao feet salad and paste it on my refrigerator and cookie jar. That should turn me off from food well enough I could easily lose weight! That just turns my stomach to look at. I know I should be accepting of their unique qualities, but I just couldn't keep them. Blech!!!!!!

All I can say is where I come from I never saw a chicken like that. Poor chicken where ever he came from.

I can only think when the fellows went to the docks to pick up thier imported chickens if they saw some thing like this they would be a little up set. The Red Javas, the Poturias from Brahmas world, the White Face black Spanish, the Leghorns, the Red Games, that where stuffed at the Peabody Inst. all the old chickens that made up our so called old American Class nothing like these chickens I dont think ever came into New England like these things. I never saw a picture or a black and white drawing of such a fowl.
Thank goodness. I sure would not want to have in the gene pool of my R I Reds.

Does any one have any good articles on line Breeeding?

I have been getting some messages from the beginners wanting to know how they can improve the poor breeds they have. They have sent me pictures of some of thier chickens and boy they need improvement.

What can we do to help them.

Also, I have a nice lady who is showing her chickens for the first time what can she do to get her male and female large fowl ready for the show. I dont mean washing them but making them look better for the judge. Any secrets you can scare. bob
