Note: Ideal Poultry Farms does sell the Patridge, Buff and Red Chanteclers, but one must order early as they sell out quickly.

And the Red Chantecler. This was a true Canadian development and not from Ideal Poultry Farms. Recieved this from the breeder this week, along with the photos.

Here are some of the dozen Red Chants we made last year (just a cross on buff and partridge, no magic there and none came from Ideal, my supplier of Chants is Glenn Drowns of Sand Hill!), actually many have the colour pattern like Campines as poults, the colour genetics in parts and buffs explain this outcome perfectly.

So cute and love the depth of colour! These birds are five months old in the pics. Note the genetic expression of the breast keel on the pullet in the last pic (side affect of pure pea comb as seen in Brahmas and Cornish).

What a hardy bird that could live in very cold climates. Do not have to worry about frozen combs. They are also in my black and white standard which makes the a H bird. bob

Chanteclers, RIRs and Buckeyes are all nice birds from the American class. But they are what they are: relatively recent created composite breeds (like the Cubalaya from Cuba).

I'm glad y'all like them and what to keep them up (and in the case of the Buckeye, try to get it back to the way it looked when I was kid: y'all still have a long way to go! as those of us with Cubalayas do too). I too love my Cubalayas which are a relatively recent created composite breed.

But, when it comes down too it, I am much more concerned about saving the breeds that originally made all these composites.

only the partridge and white are recognized

Dr. J. E. Wilkinson of Alberta developed several varieties of his Albertans ...aka Chanteclers. The Partridge was submitted first. When the Standards Committee accepted it, but under the breed name Chantecler, Wilkinson declined to submit any other varieties. The Buff was recreated by the late Walter Franklin in the United States in the early 1980s. Sadly he died before it could be submitted to the SOP. Several CFI members are working deligently with the Buffs so they will meet the Standard for the breed and then submit it to the Standard Committee. When we do submit the Buff Chantecler, it will be a Chantecler with true Buff color!
