What a wonderful story: Its people like her that have a imput on you, but more than anything your soul.
They may get out of chickens ,they may die ,but you feel you have to keep thier line going and help promote the breed they gave you. You are doing it for them.
I remember when I was about 16 years old I was at a Nursing Home in Seattle Washington and Carl F. Hove was dieing in his bed a Master Breeder of Large Fowl. He told me Robert you can have any white rock I have for $5. I said Thank you Carl. I only had $20. in cash and $2. for gas to get home on. Gas was 32 cents a gallon back then and I had to get five gallons to get home. Then as I was saying good buy he grabed my hand and said Robert dont let my White Rocks Large Fowl die keep this line going. I got 50 years into this breed.
I started to cry and said good buy. He died two weeks latter. I kept the Stain of white Rocks till I was 19 years old but Vietnam got me to leave home. My dad did not keep his promise and he killed all my chickens within two months of leaving home.
Three years ago when I was asked to be the National Secetary of the Plymouth Rock Fanicers Club when it was in the toilet how could I not say no when they asked me to be Secetary.
I lost Carls strain but at least I could help promote the breed, the Club that he was a Hall of Fame member of and help others get started and help them breed for color with Plymouth Rocks.
Old timers who where born in 1890s like Carl F. Hove who helped so many people get started in Poultry have a effect on you like he did me. Thats why I push the Heritage old Breeds of Large Fowl like I do.
So one day you may be effected by some old timer with a rare Heritage breed and they will ask you to carry it on for them and it will get to your Soul.
May this happen to at least one of you in your life time. bob
