Try a google book search for E B Thompson rocks and E B Thompson Ringlet or anything else you notice in an article you read that you think may glean mo (had to do it) info. When I search I will usually go out to about page 30 or so unless there is still a fair amount of relevant info appearing. Here is another site Bob uses a lot it has good info

I will continue searching. I have downloaded several of the old books and magazines available. I found his obituary, and several articles about him. Can you imagine, winning 26 years in a row at Madison Square Gardens? Oh my, what an exciting place that must have been. I love the old pictures, too.

Yes Suet is not a great food source in quantity it will make the birds fat and is hard on their liver etc. If the meat scraps have a lot of fat I trim it and give it to the wild birds.

Jen you are very correct double mating is usually used with party colored birds. That would be breed varieties where the male and female are quite different. These breeds are generally much more challenging in the breeding pen due to recessive gene traits. These would be varieties like Partridge, Silver Penciled, Salmon, silver gray etc. A lot of new hobbyists are not aware of this and have a lot of trouble breeding both male and female birds of proper color. You can standard breed these birds for a few years but will generally have to go to double mating agin for a year or two to reset certain traits back into the males and hens.

The Dominique standard changed in 1915. This was probably one of the most controversial breed description wars in the history of the APA.
Here is a link to a very interesting historical article. I used to Raise Barred Hollands and they have the same color patterns.

Oh Hurray the weather report is on and it should be 24 below zero in the morning with a windchill of -40 below here in tropical MN.

Good luck with the birds

According to the CDC and the WHO, pigs can be infected with Avian Influenza A.
Just a couple of years ago turkeys on two farms in Chile were found to be infected with H1N1. Remember that H1N1 virus was found to contain human AND swine AND bird influenza.

While the public was told you couldn't get H1N1 from eating pork, or handling raw pork, what they didn't mention is that eating the raw meat of an infected animal was not safe. Then again, perhaps they didn't stress that because not too many people indulge in raw pork these days. The point is, why go out of your way to set up the conditions for the next viral soup when it doesn't take long boil pork to the required 165 degrees?

Be safe, be well.
