Hello Robert and other Heritage Large Fowl Experts!

I hope the photos of my 26 month old Barred Rocks 'show up' here in my post as I am very interested in
your critique of them as far as proximity to SOP for the breed. I have three cockerels and the one I'm trying
to show you all is my best example. The 'lone' pullet's legs and beak are much more bright yellow than shows
in this photo. I've tried to include enough examples of my 24 pullets as to be representative of my flock.

I appreciate and welcome all observations and comments as I plan to selectively breed my BRs for egg production,
temperament as well as adhereance to SOP ( or as much as is possible as these are only production birds but as
you say - start with what you have and build on it which is what I plan to do )

You may have seen these posted on the other threads sorry but I'd love to get some extra feedback. Not sure if the mille fleur variety of leghorn is considered heritage? Also the brahmas I breed.... since they are a new color variety are they still considered heritage because they are brahmas? Sorry to be naive about this, just trying to get the right info.

I've just culled out my silver pencils. They are 5 1/2 months now and these are my keepers for breeding. I went over the flock with a California judge and he thought these were the best. Obviously they need to fill out, but I'm happy that these are heavier and have a better back line than the first trio I was working with. My favorite is my white banded hen. What do you guys think? (Sorry I don't have a great picture of the roo)

A few pics from the Mille Fleur Leghorn pen. I'm really hoping I have a few to work with. Out of 60 chicks I only have 11 that have yellow legs. Tail is good in a few, but these are still pretty young. 3 1/2 - 5 1/2 months. Thanks for looking

hey guys/girls:

there was a thread created earlier asking about a good large fowl meat bird that could be reproduced (e.g....not the cornish x) - - here is the link:

while there is good information there, i posed the question of listing breeders for these breeds as it seems I can find lots of info about large fowl heritage but can't find a lot of info about breeders who breed for meat-i-ness or both meat-i-ness and egg laying - - especially from people who have gotten stock from those breeders and can say 'yes, they're great' or 'no, not so great for the goal in mind'.

i thought i would ask the same question here. anyone know of good breeders who breed for reproducible meat birds and good egg layers?

oh, and i know about all the bidding sites, and hatcheries. i am looking for specific breeders y'all have experience with. if you know their contact info (e.g. websites, email addresses, phone numbers, etc), that'd be fantastic. i see people all the time looking for this info, so i suspect they, too, can't find a simple list of folks who are breeding this way.

most of the responses i see with this type of question is: find a good breeder. that's a good, reasonable response. however, it doesn't necessarily help with someone trying to acquire birds. so, i was thinking let's compile a list of breeders - - so when someone says 'find a good breeder', they can do just that. perhaps a new thread should be started?

Ok thanks for the clarification, but my other two are considered heritage correct? silver penciled plymouth rock and mille fleur leghorns?
