Bob Blosl's Heritage Large Fowl Thread

Bob, maybe people could be enticed if you put up a possible list of birds that deserve preserving . . . maybe as a sampling to promote some interest. Just a thought.

I 13 Auburn turkeys from Porters, guess they don't fit the criteria of heritage large fowl as they are not chickens. Thought I would give these a try as they are not very popular, though I'm not sure why, I think they are rather attractive. Much like the BR but without the white in the tail feathers and the wings are brown and white striped instead of pure white.

Thanks for the names, I will search them out when the time is right. I have seen a video of a flock of Jim Bell's Spanish. Pretty cool!

These are the two White-Faced Black Spanish chicks I would like to rehome. They are 8 weeks old they look like pullets to me but I am completely unfamiliar with this breed so it's just a guess. I hatched them from eggs that I received from Lund poultry, they were fillers to complete an order I had placed with them. Very nice people to work with 100% hatch rate on shipped eggs very impressive. If anyone is interested or perhaps knows someone who is please PM me.

They have found a home. Thank you to all who helped.

Is it my ignorance, or do they look like black guinea hens? I don't know a lot about BFS, but thought they had more of a Langshan appearance? Someone educate me
Thanks,
Karen

If you have a Standard of Perfection, you will find the WFS (White Faced Spanish) in the Mediterranean section. These are pullets and their tails should get a bit longer and their combs bigger. They should get bigger overall. They might look like guinea hens because they're walking with their heads down, hunting for bugs and such.

I had White Faced Black Spanish from Lund's two or three years ago. I got to meet Terry Lund at Crossroads last year, too. Great folks to deal with. I also had a 100% hatch from them. I remember that hatch had only 2 or 3 cockerels and about a dozen pullets. Boy, that doesn't happen often! They were hatched from XL to Jumbo sized eggs, as I recall. Very nice huge white eggs. I did not keep them, because I had other interests, and they were a bit flighty.

A picture I took yesterday of my young cockeral, white wyandotte. He has promise. Just needs some more time to finish.

Nice male here is a rare breed that needs help. Wyandottoes are one of the weaker large fowl in the American Class. Other than Whites I have no idea who has the other colors.

Will work on a list to put out.
