Here are some pictures of my 2012 model Partridge Rocks. This represents year 4 of my breeding program from eggs I ordered from Dick Horstman. The males color does not come out in the photos but they are deep dark cherry red in the hackle and the saddle.

Here is a question for you who can help us locate other good strains of Partridge Plymouth Rock Large Fowl.

Other than Dick Hortsman and these birds by Peach Dog in Fla who has them?

I dont mean hatchery stock we have seen enough of them and got rid of them but does anyone have Partridge Plymouth Rocks anymore?

Hope you can help us. bob

I too am like my good friend Mr.Jensen glad I don't have the room much less the money for all the breeds I'd like to have. These ones and silver pencilled and columbian and buff and white rocks ect.... to go along with all the rest of my now acquired breeds. LIKE a kid in a candy store LOL

aveca,
It a Malinois Kalkoenkop,
The Malionis Kalkoenkop is a Belgium breed that lays 150 eggs a year, the eggs are a Yellow in color and weigh 53 grams.
Males weigh 12 lbs and Females 10 lbs

And for those interested in similar cards... these stood out for me. All are from the Belgian Museum of Natural Science. I found them interesting.

Airling "Butch" Gunderson in wiscoson has some partridge rock large and bantam. He got his start from Kruger in wisc. Haven't seen them in person but heard that they are nice. There is also a man in Kansas named Kevi Bewtow that raises large partridge rocks. Thats about the only ones that I know of.

This will show you what Butch is working with and can offer.

Robert Powell In Carbondale PA has or had some awesome partridge LF.
Pretty sure he still has them?
I think he got his start from Cecil Rose? Maybe Terry can chime in here...
Behney & Miller also had partridge LF.. Not sure where they went when they sold out.

Hi
A question for the seasoned show folk.
What do you think about showing your foundation birds? My trio will be here this month. Ik now they should be shown so folk can see the birds with which I am founding my flock. Least I think that's the way it goes. Does in dogs, at least. Bring out the foundation stock and showcase the parents for the next breeding season. But I'm leary of showing them because I am afraid they might get sick or something. Should I try? Or wait till next year and show their get?
Thanks,
Karen
English Light Sussex, in western PA
Karen,

Wait until you have a bunch of chicks from those birds. If you show before that , not only are you risking your breeders, but you are really just advertising their breeder's bloodline. As hard as it is to find really good Light Sussex, I'd keep them home. You can post lots of your birds' pictures on here with no risk to your birds. Word quickly gets out as to whom has the "good uns".

One of my seven month old Columbian Plymouth Rocks.

That got a good smile

oh this is very neat! Where do you get this rubberized roofing?
I have a friend that is a carpenter and he has a contact to get this stuff straight from the factory. So he gets it to put on roofs of houses especially if you have a roof that is tempramental and leaks and can't find the leak like this old 1828 house I live in, fixed that leak. But he says you can buy this stuff from a lumber supply place. It is worth the money especially to keep my chickens dry and warm in the winter.

and i do not know what this chicken is, but im sure some of you will.

.i found a blog about 2 years ago about a young man in europe desperatly trying to re-create a breed that  was extinct after WW1.. he had to do a lot of  research and find 2 very obscure breeds to do this and those were also near extinct, one was critical in numbers.he had to travel a very long way from home and could only hope that some might still exist..if memory serves me it was in russia remote region that he had to travel...it was a great story and he was a great  story  teller , it has been about 2 years since i followed the story, the page was bookmarked in my old computer, but that is gone, cant find it now..too bad , it would have been interesting to heritage breeders.

Are these lovely birds still available in the US? The article in the link for the Malinois Kalkoenkop indicated there is a turkey headed that was bred by crossing the Cuckoo Maline with a game bird...doesn't sound as pretty as these pictured. Do we have breeders for the Belgian Malines? I'll try to do some research...
