Wow, you are really dense! There's no getting through to you! You obviously value animals' lives over human lives and refuse to even try to understand that people have to protect their property and families against predators of any kind, man or beast.

(Did he ever say animals are more important? NO, we all have to share this world, might as well try to do it as civil as possible-how would you feel if you tried to pick up your meat at the grocery store and someone shot you---- isnt that essentially what the cat was doing?)

Come on now...name calling? I thought this was a forum of adults talking about chickens, not acting like children. People are aloud to have different opinion. Respect each others opinion, agree to disagree and move on.

Over the last few weeks, IMO, this forum has turned into a lot of arguing, name calling and pictures of dead animals. I really enjoyed it when I started, but it is getting less informative and has become a forum of disargreements about topics that are not going to be solved by arguing here.

You all may feel strongly about your opinion, but keep in mind an opinion is not a fact and not everyone wants to "watch" you bicker when they try to look at topics.

Are you really just that scared all the time? That level of paranoia has GOT to be exhausting.

Dude, I live in LA. We have some of the worst gang violence in the country. I'll take a mountain lion or a bear ANY day.

L.A.? Enough said:lol:

If I still had them on my computer, I'd post some game camera pics a gentleman captured by his deer feeder. It shows a huge tom bobcat take out a deer that was feeding on the corn he had been putting out for them. Today I was informed by my brother that around noon he drove by my place and there was a big ol coyote less than 30 yards from my house eyeing the poultry....We all deal with our predator problems differently and shouldn't judge anyone as to their methods it is still somewhat of a free country and all...

Myself, concerned about my 3 yo son, I will be relocating ol wile coyote....

I'll trap him in a scope....

a little piece here, a little piece there.......

relocation complete....

Lok who joined in the arguing and name-calling!

And if I went into someonelse's refigerator rummaging for food, I would fully expect to be shot on sight if I got caught!

I am not argue with you on your topics or judging anyone for how they take care of things.

Nor am I name calling for that matter, just observing. If I was going to now would be a good time to start.

This forum is getting ridiculous. People arent making valid logical point or respecting each other at all. Some are just fighting like three year olds. Maybe its time to find a forum for grown ups.

Relocating is generally considered inhumain because it removes the animal from its home area and into a new one. This causes territorial fights as well as other issues which can cause the loss of life of more than the origional animal that was relocated. Relocating also spreads disease. Lastly, relocating is illegal in most areas. Some areas it is legal if you get a permit (which is policy to never give out so again basically illegal). I am not talking just specifically bobcats but nusance animals in general. As a side note, I believe FL is one of the states that you need a permit to relocate animals (I know one animal for sure but not posative about bobcats, I didnt look it up because the OP solved thier problem).

I just thought people needed to be reminded...

HTH

I didn't say it was legal. What are all of these people who are against killing predators doing with the predators they trap? If they feel it is against their morals to kill it and they relocate it then it is their personal choice.

I would never relocate a predatory animal because I don't want it to become someone else's problem. If they are on my property then they are my problem and I will take care of my problem.

But this is just my personal opinion. It doesn't mean that those who don't want to kill predatory animals are wrong.

Take care,

Tami

As urban areas infringe on the habitats of the Bobcat, the are becoming more of a threat however if you google "bobcats attacks" you will find that the majority involve sick animals, either already injured or rabid.

The fact that the OP managed to dispatch one and while I'm not sure when exactly such was done but apparently during the light of day, would indicate that this bobcat was not healthy. IMO if I witnessed such esp with having a 5 year boy who loves to spend his time in coop with the chickens, I would not hesitate to dispatch the threat.

Bobcats while once at risk are coming back in large numbers all over the United States, including the the greater risk is mountain lions. I live in Missouri and for the last 10 years, hunters and people here have reported seeing mountian loins; the department of conservation kept up their view that such was not true but then in they started being hit by cars and only then did the state finally admit "ok, there are mountain lions in Missouri.

Beautiful cat. I would have done the same thing. I couldn't have it mounted though, I'd scare myself walking through my house at night, lol. Maybe skinned.

Of course if you see a Bobcat around here it's usually because it's sick, and not something you want around anyway, so it'd end up going to the Game Wardens, anyway. Sick animals aren't predictable, I mean we all remember Ol' Yella right?

I don't see why people are arguing over whether what the OP did was wrong or right. It's done and over with and we all think we know what we'd do in that situation. Some of would still be able post pictures of live chickens and the rest would be putting in an order to MM for new ones, that's all.

It is a beautiful cat and I would also have cause for concern with it doing circles around my property. Chickens seem to be magnets for predators.
Angie I did not know you guys had bobcats up in Maine? I thought they were extinct in New England or is that Mountain Lions?

I think we all agree here that there is a need sometime for "disposing of problem" You protected your family and pets. 99% of us would do the same thing when push comes to shove. I hunt. I eat what I shoot. I believe that having a gun is an American right as well as protecting your person, family, and property (sounds a bit constitutionalist). I did see the picts before the graphioc side was posted. It didn't bother me. It was "tastefully" done. There was no blood and it showed the large animal that was looking for some finger licking good chicken snacks. He lost. If you disagree then you disagree, also an American right. Now go Thank a Soldier and pet your favorite chicken.
