I have 3 quail in a 4 ft x 7 ft enclosure. (female Texas A&M, female bobwhite and male bobwhite.) My male bobwhite is missing his whole tail, and not any other feathers. (He is not hurt) I have read that they pluck their feathers when overcrowded, not fed enough or when bored but I'm not sure if that's the reason. The chicken wire on top of the cage is bent and it looks like a heavy animal was sitting on it. Could a raccoon have done something? Does anybody know what might've happened? Here's a picture...

That male looks just like my bobwhites when they lost their tails before. I think it's pretty silly-looking when they do that. :D

I think it's just them molting. My quail began to lose their tail feathers for absolutely no reason but then later they grew new ones. My bobwhites when they lost their tails match your male's tail completely. I wouldn't worry if I were you. :)
