Bone (?) growing out of her wattles?

Shady Lady seems to be doing pretty well. She is having a really hard time eating the whole grains that are in her layer feed. Last night I decided to give her some scrambled egg and she is a fiend for it. Makes me think that hard food is too much for her. She’s abhors food-paste. Won’t touch it. Tonight I am going to buy some crumbles hoping that she can eat those. In the meantime, broccoli, apples, and eggs are a go.

she’s not really drinking. Yesterday she decided she was incredibly thirsty and drank about 1/8 cup. Hasn’t had any water on her own since, though she is standing, moving around, and eating what she can. I’m having a hard time using the dropper to get water into her but I’m trying. Ideas? Am I overthinking it?

My last question for all you experts! How long do I keep her inside? My vet said to keep her inside in the cat crate (large) for at least 24 hours. I have a much larger crate in the coop for her, but it is getting down to almost 0° at night. I do have a little warming pad I can put in. Should I put her back in the coop this afternoon or keep her inside longer? I don’t know if it’s better to keep her away from other chickens, or maybe the opposite. Maybe she will go back to normal behavior if I move her back to the coop sooner.

you all are amazing. You get credit for saving this chicken’s life!

Best if she drinks on her own, but if you feel the need to be more proactive read this:

That's a tough call. I'd be inclined to keep her under a closer watch for now.
Maybe some day trips out to the coop crate with her flock, and night times inside in the coolest space possible.

I think your vet gets that credit.

How's she doing now @Inkisevidence ?
She’s doing really well! Eating and drinking. 2 more days of antibiotics. She’s super irritated to be in a separate enclosure in the coop and is clearly stressed. I don’t see another option as she has stitches sticking out. Not sure when it’s safe to let her back in with those stitches beckoning the other chickens to bite them... Today is only day 5 after stitches.

Great!!
Are the stitches dissolving or will they need to be removed by you or the vet?
Can you crate her within the coop/run for some socialization time?

Shady Lady is doing great! She’s clucking and eating and getting along with the others. Thanks everyone for all your help. Couldn’t have done it without you!
